Local HTTPS development

A trusted development edge, without a public domain.

Run a loopback development stack

The --dev server mode binds locally and uses unprivileged ports: control 4443, HTTP 8080, HTTPS 8443. It lets you develop with *.localhost domains without exposing the stack to the network.

terminal
wirerift-server --dev
# Use the token printed by the server
wirerift http 3000 myapp --server 127.0.0.1:4443 --token YOUR_TOKEN

Create and trust the development CA

Run the trust command when you explicitly want to install WireRift's local development CA into your machine's trust store. It may request operating system privileges. Restart your browser after installing it.

terminal
wirerift-server ca trust
wirerift-server ca status

The upstream README notes that macOS and Windows trust-store support is implemented but has not been exercised on real machines. Check the current source and platform behavior for your setup.

Open your local domain

Browsers resolve *.localhost to loopback. In dev mode your app can be available at https://myapp.localhost:8443. For .test domains, add explicit local host mappings.

Remove the local trust

The CA management commands let you inspect the certificate path or remove the trust when you no longer need it.

terminal
wirerift-server ca path
wirerift-server ca untrust
